Overview - Effective Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Service Delivery
Empowering communities through communication and ownership
Despite the best of intentions, governments constantly struggle with delivering services that are aligned with traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander lifestyles. Facilitating Indigenous mobility practices and the rich cultural traditions of clans has emphasised the need to move away from a one-size fits all model, to empowerment of individual communities in driving their own service delivery.
Effective Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Service Delivery 2010 drives deeper into the ongoing issues surrounding appropriate service delivery in Indigenous communities. By fleshing out often simple, yet astute approaches that acknowledge customary protocols and community expectations, this conference will equip service deliverers with the tools needed to engage communities in sustainable service delivery - critical in closing the gap!
Providing a platform of consultation between a range of service delivery stakeholders from the community, public and private sectors, the conference will address service delivery issues within key areas, including: health, housing, community development, education and training, justice and employment.
You will take away:
- Increased awareness on Indigenous cultural norms and protocols for effective service delivery
- Tools on negotiating with government, the private sector and communities
- Methods on how to have ongoing input during implementation of services
- Case studies on service delivery initiatives that break through common barriers
